Parking

We offer undercover drop/pickup entrances for large buses and oversized vehicles. There are 17 free onsite vehicle parking spaces.

Do I need to book in advance?

We recommend booking in advance, especially during the school holidays.

You can secure your ticket online, and payment is required at the time of booking. We accept in-store NZD cash or credit cards, including VISA and Mastercard.

Can I buy a gift voucher for the tours?

Yes, we offer gift vouchers for our visitor experience. You can purchase online through the Book Now page or submit your request online via email.

Is the experience wheelchair accessible?

We have two accessible car parks onsite, closest to the main entrance. All Māwhera Pā experience spaces are wheelchair-friendly, and we provide accessible bathroom facilities.


Elevator access to level 1 is available for conference facilities.

The Experience hub

Throughout the experience, various digital light displays may be sensitive for guests with sensory processing sensitivity (SPS). We have designated areas where you can sit down if you feel overstimulated. Please reach out to our staff for assistance.

Food and Drink

Food and beverages are not allowed inside Māwhera Pā's experience hub, but can be consumed in the main entrance area.

How do I get my hands on some excellent merchandise?

The Māwhera Pā shop offers a selection of traditional and contemporary authentic Ngai Tahu, New Zealand Pounamu jewellery, and art pieces. Our gift store offers a wide variety of high-quality merchandise that can be purchased in-store.

Is there an age restriction for your experience?

We welcome guests of all ages. For children, please include them in your booking form. 

Can I take photos?

Visitors can take photos in and around the Māwhera Pā experience spaces, the shop, and the entrance. However, please note that tripods are not allowed in the experience exhibits.

Commercial filming and photography: All commercial photography and filming, including media organisations, is only permitted by prior arrangement.

Can I bring my bags?

Small bags are allowed in the Māwhera Pā experience. Please note that a small storage room is available at the Māwhera Pā entrance for backpacks, raincoats, umbrellas, etc.
